I went to church on the 31st cause that's what I do. The crossover service was amazing and when we finally did the countdown everyone went crazy. They kept singing Nigerian choruses so my sister and I were dancing like madmen cause we were very excited.
However, I still miss crossover in Nigeria. It was very different and it was so much fun. The best part of it is that my extended family was usually in church too. I miss them :(
After the service, my sister and I went to the city but it was so rowdy and disgusting because everyone was wasted so we went back home at 2. All in all, it was okay.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!

"African?" they ask.
Yes,
but I am Nigerian.
I am the voice that brings heads together,
Yes,
but I am Nigerian.
I am the voice that brings heads together,
as I speak in loud tones, through poetry,
as I make the opinions of the speechless known.
I let my accent roll off my tongue,
by accident,
I let my accent roll off my tongue,
by accident,
as my voice rises like the dust does in my fatherland.
My heart beats like the talking drums of my ancestors,
My heart beats like the talking drums of my ancestors,
brave like the wrestlers of that time yet pure,
bursting with severe passion,
bleeding with an indescribable love,
and having a thirst for change.
My hands stay open as they touch the lives of the needy through actions of brotherly love,
My hands stay open as they touch the lives of the needy through actions of brotherly love,
and as they wish to know the secrets of the delicious dishes of our women.
My ears reminisce those days it fell asleep to folk tales told by the wise whose faces are adorned with
laugh lines and proud smiles, whose eyes saw visions and lips spoke prophecies.
My mind sleeps in a state of unrest,
harboring thoughts of hope and dreaming of a future that can be attained by a generation of multitalented beings: children who break boundaries and shape universes.
My eyes miss the beauty we possess,
seen in the smiles of people who have little joy in the world.

Yet they laugh even in deprivation, sing even in trepidation.
The beauty, that's in the happy way the hips of the dancer sways as our culture comes to life with her every move.
My body moves to the echoes of bomb blasts and clashing cutlasses.
My body moves to the echoes of bomb blasts and clashing cutlasses.
Stray bullets pierce through my eyes as I read memoirs of those persecuted for standing up for something
and the cries of the survivors of the many oil explosions play in the background.
While the fire blazes in my soul as I watch those memories once tucked away reincarnate in our today.
And the color of my skin?
It unites me to my people,
tracing the world map, with dotted lines, the route back home.

Reminding me of seeds I must sow, in memory of my roots that define me, wherever I go.
I am Nigerian,
a reason to be proud,
Proud that after 51 years, we keep growing strong, we keep growing free.

Beautiful Imperfection
Beautiful Imperfection is an album by Asa.
If you remember, I posted something about it in January around the time of its initial release. This time its different! Yes, Asa released the US special edition +2 bonus tracks and it debuted at #5 on the BILLBOARD WORLD ALBUM CHARTS!! I mean how cool is that? I said it before and I'll say it again, I love her, she makes me proud to be Nigerian.
"Powerful vocals that channel Amy Winehouse at her peak… and lyrics that recall Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye"- Teen Vogue.
P.S. It was also #3 a few days ago but its now back to #5 :(

Wiz Party!
My Nigerians just keep doing me proud like I'm just so happy right now. I just heard Wiz Party (yes, I know I am late but I am in freaking Vienna so no one should say anything) and I am just impressed, honestly, I am just sooo proud of Wizkid (Ayo Balogun) like I feel like he's my child hehe. God bless him, he's so talented and amazing and he should just keep it up and not change for anybody. His fans and supporters will be right behind him 100 percent always, with me in the lead as the #1 fan of course!!
PS: Wiz kid should better just kill it with an even better video otherwise ..

Nigeria
A land full of riches and treasure
With people lost on the right way to access wealth and are therefore exploiting our mother making her bend over like a poor beggar.
A beautiful home
Walls painted with insanity. Corruption and violence reek in the atmosphere, curses and abusive words thrown at you as you walk in. There is nothing more normal than the chaos and destruction that falls upon us.
The Giant of Africa
Being run by small minded short sighted men followed by narrow minded people. We fall short of the glory that is in our name.
Beautiful is Nigeria
A scar remains in her chest as she mourns for the child she was forced to abort, wisdom. Tears are brought down to the ground as she sits there hopeless with exposed breasts hanging below her stomach sucked of its richness and resources.
Innocent men are brought down to the ground and we just stand and watch handicapped. Slaughtered pieces of flesh distributed across the land and the ignored fact that they were once part of our family.
Sought for justification in our wrong actions. Our future remains as unclear as our present is unheard of. Why is it that we allow the names of our leaders past to drown?
A promise of hope
Reassurance that the money invested in the younger generation will bring about a change. Imaginations that will one day come true, a place where Nigeria is resting in serenity and unity. A place that puts a smile across our faces when we dream of home.
